Airbrush makeup & hair L’Auberge Del Mar wedding

One beautiful bride + 12 bridesmaids – Airbrush makeup & hair L’Auberge Del Mar wedding

I had a great time getting to know Robin throughout the beauty planning process for her and Adam’s wedding at L’Auberge Del Mar on August 30, 2014!  Robin had a clear vision of what she wanted for her wedding day “look” which was a warm, beachy style, not far from her everyday look …just a bit more polished.  I was able to meet her vision through the use of AirPro airbrush foundation allowing a full coverage finish for photos while looking completely natural in person and durable enough to hold up through the balmy August San Diego climate for more than 12 hours+.  I then used subtle peachy/pink tones overall and created large loose waves throughout her sun-kissed long tresses.  She made my job super easy!

With the help of four of my team members we were able to complete makeup and hair services on the bride, all 12 bridesmaids and mom in just 4 hours leaving plenty of time for pre-ceremony photos.  The bridesmaids chose various hairstyles and wore three different tones of blue dresses.  I thought the final look was picture perfect!  Speaking of …I’ve worked with her outstanding photographer Pam Scott many times over the past 12 – 15 years, or so, and she never fails to amaze with her outstanding work!  These photos are her work that she so generously shared with me!  More images from Robin and Adam’s wedding can be viewed on Pam Scott’s blog.

Makeup Station Organizational Ideas

Makeup application is a better experience with a well organized makeup station!

First and foremost your makeup station should have good lighting which is key when applying makeup!  Daylight bulbs are best when working in a bathroom or other dark room but natural light is ideal if you have a nook for a makeup vanity with a window nearby.  A large, well secured mirror will give you hands-free visibility and ease of use of hair and makeup appliances.  Outlets with a power strip are helpful if you plan to blow dry and curl your hair at your station.  And for the makeup savvy who airbrush their makeup each morning, you will need a spare outlet for your system.  Learn more about airbrush makeup here. Modular boxes and untraditional makeup storage  as well as repurposed items make great storage for smaller items and pretty trays should display some of your most used products for easy access.

Here is an example of repurposed and upcycled containers for organizing a filled to capacity makeup drawer.

This is one of my favorite makeup stations as you can add components depending on your needs and has enough space for jewelry, scarves and hair accessories.

It’s fun to dress up your makeup station with books and images to inspire your inner artist.  Have fun, try something new  … siren red lipstick; and remember:  Taking joy in living is a person’s best cosmetic!

Face Talk beauty tip: How to be the best “you” in photographs.

For several days before your session avoid salty foods and alcohol which can dehydrate skin and cause puffy eyes, which will not make the camera fall in love with you.  Exfoliate skin several times the week prior and wear a moisturizing mask to bed.  Now is not the time to experiment with new products.   Get plenty of water and fruits and vegetables in your diet.  Have eyebrows shaped and groomed 1 to 2 days before if tweezing or 1 week before if waxing.  Wax removes even the tiniest hairs causing the makeup to lay down differently.  Exfoliate lips by applying Vaseline for several minutes then remove with rough wash cloth or soft toothbrush.

Think of a professional makeup artist as insurance for those special days when you want to look your best!
